Where do we start with Annie as it is complicated? She was our first ever Entlebucher Sennehunde Mountain Dog and was absolutely amazing. We go back to the end of 2009 when hubby (boyfriend at the time) asked me to move in with him. There was one slight problem - he had a West Highland Terrier and I had a house Rabbit called Mister C (Carrot). As much as I wanted a dog, work did not give me the ability to truly care for one and give them the life they deserved.
Hubby and I had various conversations which I knew I was going to lose. This involved putting my house rabbit outside, getting rid of his dog (never going to happen as by this stage - I loved him too much) or rehoming Mr C, which I could not do. We moved in together with Mr C, whom we kept separate from Billy. Within a few weeks just before, I was popping out hubby said you might want to give Mr C extra cuddles, when I returned he was gone. He went to a very good family who had several house rabbits.
How does this relate to Annie? Hubby said he would get me a dog instead, I wanted to go to the local dogs home he insisted that since we both had young children that we had to have a pedigree puppy a breed which we both knew were child friendly. I love the Bernese Mountain Dogs but am very lazy with regards to grooming and also even though they are easy on the lead, do not have the strength if one day they decide to chase after something. I started to research and found this incredibly amazing short haired and smallest of the Sennehundes - the Entlebucher.
In the February I was contacted by the only breeder in the UK. There were less that 20 dogs in the UK at the time and I was something like 19th on their list - so no hope of having a pup anytime soon. In the September I received a call from the breeder but due to the length of time people had been on the list, a lot had dropped out and I was now number 6 on the list and she had 6 puppies, with a girl being available. 3 weeks later we are in Norfolk with the kids with this one girl puppy that would not leave my side. The bond was there and never broken.
4 weeks on and she came home with us and met Billy who she adored. We were inseparable, we went to Crufts together, we went everywhere, to Switzerland for health tests and her Ankorung - which is a test to check her conformity and behaviour. At the behaviour test we are asked why do you like your dog, Annie and I looked at each other and answered at the same time: because we love each other. She had a conditional pass, she was allowed to breed once and once only due to her ears and if after the pups were 12 months old and all ears were clear she could breed again. Her ears are really not breed standard yet some how EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE loves them and wants an Entlebucher with those ears. All pups were clear but we never bred from her again as she was problematic and I did not want to push her as the health of my pet is more important.
