Lia met Eiger a few years beforehand when we went on a road trip with his owner Jenny to Germany to get their Ectopic Eureter test done.
Jenny and I had never met before, a friend also came along with her dog to also have her Ectopic Eureter test as well.
She ended up sitting in the back whilst Jenny and I were in the front, complete strangers. We hit it off straight away and so did Eiger and Lia they were inseperable.
Roll forward 2 years later and we found out that Eiger and Lia were a perfect match we were delighted especially since it would be a UK mating as Eiger lives in Jersey. The gene pool in the UK is very small so to get a Sire & Dam who are unrelated is not very common.
The trip over to Jersey was not great, it was during lockdown so I had to have a cabin all to myself, and thank goodness I did, all I will say is I spent more time in the bathroom than the room, in between checking on Lia. When I arrived Jenny said that all the islanders would not even get on a boat in the conditions I travelled.
Lia was Eigers first girlfriend but after the first time they mated, trust me he did not need any help to know what to do next.
Due to Covid rules I had to stay on the island for longer than expected and was restricted to movements and could only exercise around the grounds I was staying at. A few days after the last mating, I started to feel a little unwell, after a Covid test yes you get it I caught Covid, so had to stay longer.
Jenny and the lady's place I was staying out were fantastic leaving provisions outside my door. Eiger and Lia's song was Covid Lovin' after Summer Lovin' from Greece!
At the week 4 scan we find out there are only 2 puppies which you would think is great but, the smaller the litter the more risk at whelping to the dam. Usually at week 6 you start to increase the daily calories you feed your girl, so that by week 9 she's on 50% more than her usual intake and whilst feeding the pups she can have over 3 times her usual intake. With a small litter you cannot do this as the pups can get too big and she may not be able to naturally give birth, we had to monitor her weight and food intake.
When the day finally arrived fortunately everything went really Lia was great and never left their side, to the point we had to seperate them at night to give mum and pups time to rest up as they were all very tired.
The twins were great but, needed more attention from mum and me to entertain them as they did not have other litter mates to play with. It was great though as we were able to have lots of one to one time with them.
