Lia’s story is a very interesting one. Hubby loved Annie and Entlebucher Mountain Dogs but preferred males. Since we wanted to continue with breeding a boy was out of the question but hubby still wanted an Entlebucher of his own, so we agreed on a girl. On his 49th birthday I decided to start the search to import a girl for him for his 50th as these things take time, so thought it would take at least a year . The idea was to find a breeder, take him and the kids on holiday when the pup was around 4 weeks old and tell him this is his 50th birthday present as a surprise, well how wrong could I be! 16 days after his 49th birthday a litter was born in Switzerland. I got a call in the November would we be interested in a pup, after picking myself off the floor the answer was yes of course! I then had to explain to hubby that in January we were off to Switzerland to pick up his 50th birthday present…oopsie.
The breeder was on her ‘O’ litter and was so kind knowing we wanted to breed from her, gave us the ability to chose which girl we wanted and also to choose her kennel name. Hubby named her Ophelia and when we picked her up I drove most of the way back so he could build the bond like I did with Annie. We spent most of the trip back working out names and in the end we kept Lia.
I kept my distance from Lia to help the bond but the bond between her and Annie was so strong that she moved over to me. Ever since I have worked hard with her and the bond with us both is very strong she has been amazing, she has a very quiet guarded personality but is ironically funny and I love when on walks she turns and smiles at me like my Annie does too.
She is such a good girl and an amazing mum I could not wish for a better girl and apologies to hubby that I now have his 50th birthday present!
