The test is to determine where the Ureters enter the bladder, an A is where both Ureters enter the bladder at the top. The next one is whether one or both ureters come in slightly below in the bladder even if one comes in at the top and another slightly below then this is still deemed as a 'B' (my Emma), if both are slightly below then its a ' B' the university of Zurich have studied this in depth and EU 'B' is more common to the breed and has no impact on their health. EU 'C' is when one or both Ureters avoid the bladder, this means a wet puppy, we dont want this so test both mum and dad and check their heritage, until they can find a DNA test the only way is a scan
The test in the UK is not common at the moment, with Lia we took her to three different places in the UK and Europe, as its not an easy test and vets do not do this test on a regular basis so ended up in Switzerland and the University of Zurich to find out what we already knew....this girl has a bladder of steel!
With Emma and Arwen we decided to go directly to Switzerland as whilst Zurich no longer test there are other vets who do and are more used to doing the test since there are more Entlebuchers in Switzerland!
So off we went to a place just outside of Zurich to get them tested.
This is a four week old pup whos around 1kg, cute I know!
Roll forward to month 10 with a 15kg + excitable puppy, the test involves lying the dog down on their back and having the same type of scan if doing a pregancy test but on the bladder, so the dog has to lie still on their back for 20 ish minutes, easy right?
Most if not all Entlebuchers have to be sedated for this, I had practiced hard with Emma, so we took her in first and my girl did not need sedation and she was such a good girl wriggling a little towards the end but was well behaved, we knew that Arwen would be very different, she wants to please and gets very excited around people and can barely control her tail with excitement, the vet adminsitered her sedative and said he would return in a minute whilst it took hold, well within seconds she was out, still awake but very relaxed and snuggly. She did us proud as she was EU A, well done my little girl!
